Karawia is a sweet dish of Syrian origin. It is considered one of the most beautiful Syrian customs and traditions in welcoming guests and congratulating the newborn. Karawia is a mixture of spices or cumin seeds, a quantity of ground rice and sugar, and covered with a layer of coconut, pistachios and almonds soaked in slices.

Benefits of caraway:

  • It is useful for bloating and colic, as it expels wind and helps in digesting food. Caraway oil is also considered a good antiseptic and sedative for children.
  • It helps in removing digestive congestion and expelling intestinal gases.
  • The emulsion is useful for treating flatulence, and is also given to women in the first days of postpartum to stimulate milk production.
  • Caraway is used externally to treat colic in children by filling a small cloth bag with the fruit, heating it, and placing it over the abdomen.
  • Massage the abdominal wall with fruit oil to relieve intestinal colic, expel gas, and relieve lower abdominal pain.
